Another House Democrat Plans to Force Trump Impeachment Vote

Another House Democrat Plans to Force Trump Impeachment Vote/ Newslooks/ WASHINGTON/ J. Mansour/ Morning Edition/ Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) has filed new articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, citing authoritarian behavior and disregard for democratic norms. Green accuses Trump of violating court orders, attacking federal judges, and threatening democratic institutions. While top Democrats reject the effort, Green vows to stand firm on principle. This happens just days after another Trump impeachment effort by Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) was scuttled. Green, unlike Thanedar, has a history of following through on this sort of thing. He repeatedly forced unsanctioned impeachment votes against Trump during his first term.

Dem Rep. Al Green Files Impeachment Articles Against Trump

Deep Look

Rep. Al Green Files Articles of Impeachment Against President Trump, Citing ‘Authoritarian’ Conduct

WASHINGTON, D.C.Representative Al Green (D-Texas) has reignited his longstanding opposition to President Donald Trump by introducing a new resolution to impeach the president, accusing him of dismantling democratic norms and leading in an authoritarian manner.

Green formally filed H. Res. 415, citing what he labeled “high crimes and misdemeanors.” His resolution points to Trump’s alleged refusal to comply with court rulings, verbal attacks on federal judges, and the promotion of misinformation targeting the judiciary. Green insists the president’s actions represent a grave threat to American democracy.

“I pen this communique with a heavy heart,” Green wrote in an open letter to his colleagues. “Donald John Trump has become the authoritarian threat I warned about. Now, that threat is our reality.”

Green’s Case for Impeachment

Green’s impeachment resolution accuses Trump of:

  • Undermining judicial authority by denigrating federal judges.
  • Disregarding lawful court rulings, including decisions from the Supreme Court.
  • Encouraging the public to reject legal interpretations in politically sensitive cases.
  • Embracing authoritarian tactics that erode constitutional safeguards.

Citing the U.S. Constitution’s Article II, Section 4, Green argues that impeachable conduct need not be statutory. “An authoritarian need not commit a criminal offense to be impeached,” he wrote. “It’s enough to subvert our democratic institutions.”

Among the key incidents mentioned in the resolution is Trump’s reaction to the Supreme Court’s stance on the deportation of alleged MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Green claims the president endorsed misleading rhetoric that undermined the ruling.

Resistance From Within the Party

Green is not new to impeachment efforts against Trump. He made several attempts during Trump’s first term. Most recently, in March 2025, Green was forcibly removed from Trump’s joint address to Congress after vocally protesting the president’s policies. He was later censured for the disruption.

Despite the fervor of Green’s latest attempt, he appears to have little support from Democratic leadership. Earlier this year, Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) introduced similar impeachment articles but withdrew them after criticism from party insiders. Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), a senior member of the Judiciary Committee, reportedly called the measure “idiotic,” though he previously supported similar efforts.

Even so, Green remains undeterred.

“I encourage all members to vote with their conscience,” Green stated. “For me, it’s better to stand alone than not stand at all.”

Trump’s Response and Broader Reaction

President Trump has not publicly commented on the resolution as of Saturday morning. However, his supporters have frequently dismissed Green’s previous impeachment pushes as politically motivated.

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker (D), appearing Thursday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, added fuel to the conversation by labeling Trump an “authoritarian leader” — a remark that aligns with Green’s central accusation.

What Happens Next?

Green’s resolution faces almost certain defeat in the House. With Republican control and limited Democratic backing, the proposal is unlikely to reach the floor for a full vote. Still, it serves as a symbolic reminder of continued opposition to Trump’s leadership style, particularly among progressive Democrats.

Historically, articles of impeachment must either pass the House Judiciary Committee or be prioritized by the Speaker to advance — neither of which appears likely in this case.

Yet Green insists his goal is moral clarity, not political victory.

“My actions are driven by conscience,” he wrote. “It won’t be the first time I stand alone, and it won’t be the last.”
