DOJ Investigates Attack on US Attorney Alina Habba’s Office

Deep Look

The U.S. Department of Justice is conducting an urgent investigation following an attack on the office of Acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, Alina Habba. According to statements made Thursday by Attorney General Pam Bondi, a suspect forcibly entered Habba’s office on Wednesday night, caused significant property damage, and escaped the scene before authorities could intervene.

Attorney General Bondi reassured the public during a press briefing that the federal government is treating the matter with the utmost seriousness.

“Thankfully, Alina is ok,” said Bondi. “Any violence or threats of violence against any federal officer will not be tolerated. Period.”

She further emphasized that such incidents are part of a disturbing pattern of aggression toward law enforcement personnel nationwide.

Bondi stated, “We will find this person, and the individual will be brought to justice. Our federal prosecutors, agents, and law-enforcement partners put their lives on the line every day to protect the American people, and this Department will use every legal tool available to ensure their safety and hold violent offenders fully accountable.”

While details about the attacker remain limited, the motive is under investigation. Officials have not yet released surveillance footage or a suspect description, but the Justice Department is pursuing leads.

Following the event, Habba issued a firm statement affirming her dedication to her role and her unwillingness to yield to intimidation tactics.

“I will not be intimidated by radical lunatics for doing my job,” said Habba.

Alina Habba was sworn in as interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey earlier this year. A photo taken during the swearing-in ceremony at the White House in March 2025 shows President Donald Trump alongside Habba and Attorney General Pam Bondi.

According to the Department of Justice, Habba is responsible for leading all federal criminal prosecutions and civil litigation matters across the state. Her authority spans the DOJ offices located in Newark, Camden, and Trenton. Under her leadership, she supervises approximately 155 federal prosecutors and 130 support staff.

The DOJ reiterated its full support for Habba, highlighting the importance of safeguarding federal personnel amid a rise in politically or ideologically motivated acts of aggression.

The Justice Department has not yet confirmed whether this incident is connected to any broader threat or movement. However, the act echoes recent cases where law enforcement or judicial figures were targeted amid heated political climates and unrest.

The attack comes just weeks after Habba led a swift and high-profile operation that disrupted a terror plot with alleged links to ISIS, aimed at targeting Jewish communities during Halloween festivities. That successful DOJ action drew national attention and may have raised her profile among extremist groups.

Meanwhile, other federal agencies and local authorities have joined the search for the suspect, pooling resources and reviewing evidence to bring the perpetrator to justice.

Although no injuries were reported, the breach of security in a federal prosecutor’s office has stirred renewed conversations about safety protocols and the growing hostility toward government officials.

Pam Bondi concluded her remarks with a stern reminder of the DOJ’s commitment: “We will not be deterred. Our mission to uphold the law will continue—stronger than ever.”

Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
