Norman Powell Joins Heat As John Collins Heads to Clippers, Love and Anderson Land in Utah in Three-Team NBA Deal
MIAMI (AP) — In a significant reshuffling of NBA rosters, the Miami Heat have acquired scoring guard Norman Powell, while John Collins is headed to the Los Angeles Clippers and veterans Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson are moving to the Utah Jazz, as part of a three-team trade finalized on Monday.
The trade also features at least one second-round draft pick going from the Clippers to the Jazz, adding a future asset to Utah’s rebuilding efforts.
Powell, coming off an impressive season where he averaged 21.8 points per game and shot 40% from beyond the arc, arrives in Miami at a critical time. The Heat struggled offensively last season, ranking 24th in points per game among 30 teams. The need for scoring intensified after Miami lost sharpshooter Duncan Robinson, the franchise’s all-time leader in three-pointers, who recently joined the Detroit Pistons in a separate deal finalized on Monday.
With Powell, the Heat hope to inject instant offense and reliable perimeter shooting into their rotation. His arrival might help fill the void left by Robinson’s departure and give Miami a dynamic option alongside Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
Clippers Acquire Versatile Big Man
Meanwhile, John Collins, who averaged 19 points in 40 games with the Utah Jazz last season, finds a new home in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old forward brings significant offensive versatility and athleticism to the Clippers’ frontcourt.
“This was an opportunity to address a position and a skillset that we felt needed reinforcement,” Clippers President of Basketball Operations Lawrence Frank said in announcing the deal. “John is a power forward in his prime with great athleticism who can also play small-ball center.
He scores at all three levels, excelling in space and transition, as a runner, roller, and vertical threat. He stretches the court with his shooting and helps win the possession battle with his rebounding. We’re excited to add John to the group.”
Collins, originally drafted by Atlanta, has averaged 16 points over eight NBA seasons, bringing a reliable scoring punch and rebounding presence wherever he goes.
Love and Anderson to Utah
Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson are the newest additions to the Jazz roster. Love, a five-time All-Star and NBA champion, averaged 5.3 points across 23 games for Miami last season. Despite limited minutes, he maintained a veteran presence and leadership role. Love had expressed a desire to possibly extend his time with the Heat beyond his current contract, which expires after the 2025-26 season.
Reacting to the trade, Love shared a dose of humor on social media: “Never thought I’d be a math problem. Welcome to the NBA.”
Anderson averaged 6.7 points in 25 games for the Heat after being traded to Miami earlier in the season. The well-traveled forward now joins his sixth NBA team, having previously played with San Antonio, Memphis, Minnesota, Golden State, and Miami. Notably, Anderson was part of the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the Warriors.
The Jazz’s acquisition of Love and Anderson reflects an effort to add experienced depth and maintain flexibility amid ongoing roster changes.
