Deep Look: Jennifer Aniston Stalking Case Raises Alarms After Security Breach
Jennifer Aniston, star of Friends and The Morning Show, became the target of a frightening security breach this week after a man with a history of harassing her crashed his vehicle into the gates of her Bel Air home.
Prosecutors in Los Angeles announced on Wednesday that 48-year-old Jimmy Wayne Carwyle, a resident of New Albany, Mississippi, has been charged with felony stalking and felony vandalism, along with an aggravating circumstance for allegedly posing a threat of great bodily harm. He has remained in custody since his arrest on Monday and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday. His bail is set at $150,000.
Authorities say Carwyle had been targeting Aniston since 2023, sending her a stream of unwanted voicemails, emails, and social media messages. On Monday afternoon, the situation escalated when Carwyle drove through the front gate of Aniston’s estate in Bel Air, causing major structural damage.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, a security guard stopped Carwyle in the driveway before police arrived and took him into custody. Police confirmed that Aniston was home at the time, though thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
District Attorney Nathan Hochman said in a statement:
“My office is committed to aggressively prosecuting those who stalk and terrorize others, ensuring they are held accountable.”
The property, a midcentury-style mansion set on 3.4 acres, was purchased by Aniston in 2012 for around $21 million, according to Architectural Digest.
This case is just the latest example of the ongoing issue of celebrity stalking in Hollywood, raising renewed concerns about the privacy and safety of high-profile individuals.
Aniston, who rose to fame playing Rachel Green on NBC’s Friends, has enjoyed a decades-long career in film and television. She won an Emmy Award for her role on Friends and has been nominated nine additional times. She currently stars in the hit Apple TV+ series The Morning Show.
As of now, Aniston has not released a public statement on the incident. Her representatives have not responded to media inquiries.
Carwyle could face up to three years in state prison if convicted on all charges.
