Deep Look

Josh Allen Leads Buffalo Bills to Historic Comeback Over Ravens in 41–40 Prime-Time Thriller

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — On a night when many Bills fans headed for the exits early, Josh Allen gave them a reason to regret it — and gave the rest of the NFL a serious reminder: never count out Buffalo.

With under four minutes left and trailing the Baltimore Ravens by 15 points, Allen engineered one of the most dramatic comebacks in franchise history, leading the Buffalo Bills to a jaw-dropping 41–40 victory in their 2025 season opener.

“Our team didn’t quit,” said Allen, visibly hoarse postgame. “Maybe some people left, but next time — have some faith.”

Fourth-Quarter Frenzy: Allen Delivers MVP Performance

Already the reigning NFL MVP, Allen cemented his status with a fourth-quarter clinic. He:

  • Scored two rushing touchdowns
  • Threw a clutch TD to Keon Coleman (off a tipped pass)
  • Led a 66-yard drive in the final 86 seconds, capped by Matt Prater’s 32-yard field goal as time expired

Allen ended the night 33-of-46 for 394 yards, two touchdowns through the air, and two more on the ground. The win marked his 77th career victory, tying him with Joe Ferguson for second-most in Bills history.

“He wants the ball in big moments,” said head coach Sean McDermott. “That’s what the great ones do.”

Ravens Collapse After Offensive Showcase

The Ravens offense looked unstoppable for much of the game, scoring on seven of their first eight possessions. Lamar Jackson accounted for three total touchdowns, including two passing scores, while newly signed Derrick Henry ran wild:

  • 169 rushing yards
  • Two touchdowns
  • 46-yard TD run that gave Baltimore a 40–25 lead with 11:42 left

But Henry’s night took a turn with 3:06 remaining, when he lost a critical fumble at Baltimore’s 30-yard line. The ball was stripped by Ed Oliver and recovered by Terrel Bernard — setting the stage for Allen’s heroics.

“Put the loss on me,” said Henry. “If I take care of the ball, we win. Period.”

The Ravens became the first team in NFL history to score 40 or more points and rush for 235+ yards — and still lose.

Matt Prater’s Bills Debut is Golden

In his debut with Buffalo, 41-year-old Matt Prater made the most of his opportunity. Signed to replace the injured Tyler Bass, Prater hit both of his field goal attempts — a 43-yarder to end the first half and the 32-yard game-winner.

“No one blinked when we got down,” Prater said. “That tells you everything about this team.”

Fans, Fireworks, and a Final at “The Ralph”

Sunday marked the final home opener at Highmark Stadium, affectionately called “The Ralph,” before the Bills move into a new $2.1 billion stadium next season.

The game had a playoff-like energy — and even some controversy. A fan was ejected after slapping DeAndre Hopkins’ helmet and making contact with Lamar Jackson during a touchdown celebration. Jackson shoved the man back into his seat but later expressed regret.

“I let my emotions get the best of me,” said Jackson. “Should’ve let security handle it.”
