Deep Look: Kamala Harris to Release ‘107 Days,’ Memoir of Historic Campaign
NEW YORK — Former Vice President Kamala Harris is returning to the national stage this fall with the release of a new memoir titled 107 Days, a reference to the length of her 2024 presidential campaign — the shortest modern campaign to lead a major party ticket.
Published by Simon & Schuster and set to hit shelves on September 23, 2025, the 320-page memoir promises a candid, behind-the-scenes look at Harris’s brief yet historic journey as the Democratic nominee. In a video released Thursday, Harris described the memoir as a personal reflection on the whirlwind campaign and the lessons it taught her.
“Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for President of the United States,” Harris said. “107 days traveling the country, fighting for our future… I’ve written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey. I believe there’s value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what it will take to move forward.”
Biden Exit, Harris’s Historic Bid, and Trump’s Victory
Harris assumed the Democratic nomination after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July 2024, following a widely criticized debate performance that raised new concerns about his fitness for office. Harris’s selection marked a historic moment — she became the first woman of color to head a major party ticket.
Despite the milestone, Harris was defeated in November by former President Donald Trump, who returned to office amid a turbulent political landscape shaped by economic anxiety, global conflict, and deep cultural divides.
What the Memoir Covers — and What’s Still Unclear
Simon & Schuster CEO Jonathan Karp offered high praise for the book but withheld details on how deeply Harris will delve into controversial topics — including Biden’s departure and internal party dynamics.
“Kamala Harris is a singular American leader,” said Karp. “107 Days captures the drama of running for president better than just about anything I’ve read. It’s one of the best works of political nonfiction Simon & Schuster has ever published.”
The publisher says the memoir is filled with “surprising and revealing insights,” though no advance excerpts have been released. Financial terms for the book deal have not been disclosed.
A Political Figure Still in Play
While Harris has ruled out a 2026 gubernatorial run in California, she remains a top contender for the 2028 Democratic nomination. Her memoir may serve to reset her political image after a difficult campaign and give her renewed visibility ahead of the next presidential cycle.
Harris will appear Thursday night on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, marking her first public interview since the 2024 election. The appearance is expected to generate additional attention for the memoir and possibly provide a preview of her future political plans.
From Senate to VP to History-Making Nominee
Harris previously served as California’s attorney general and as a U.S. senator before becoming vice president under Joe Biden. In 2019, she released her first book, The Truths We Hold: An American Journey, which outlined her policy views and personal background. Though she dropped out of the 2020 Democratic primary before the first votes were cast, Biden later selected her as his running mate.
In 107 Days, she now turns her lens on the intense final chapter of that arc — the fast-paced and ultimately unsuccessful run at the presidency in 2024.
