Deep Look

Man Detained After Breaking Windows at Vice President JD Vance’s Ohio Home

A man was taken into custody early Monday morning after breaking windows and damaging property at Vice President JD Vance’s residence in Cincinnati, Ohio, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed that agents assigned to the vice president’s home detained the suspect shortly after midnight. The individual, whose name has not yet been released, allegedly used a hammer to shatter a window while attempting to gain entry into the residence.

According to two law enforcement officials familiar with the situation, the suspect was spotted following a loud noise at the property. The agents found him actively attempting to break into the home, which sits in the Walnut Hills neighborhood — a historic district overlooking downtown Cincinnati.

In addition to the attempted break-in, the man also vandalized a Secret Service vehicle while approaching the driveway, one official stated.

Fortunately, Vice President Vance and his family were not present at the time of the incident. The residence was unoccupied, and the family had already returned to Washington, D.C., Vance’s office confirmed. Further questions were directed to the Secret Service.

The Secret Service has launched an investigation in coordination with the Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which is currently reviewing potential criminal charges.

While the motive remains unclear, authorities are taking the matter seriously due to the high-profile nature of the target and the breach of federal protection protocols.

Vice President Vance, a Republican, previously represented Ohio in the U.S. Senate before being elected as the nation’s second-highest executive officer. His Ohio home in Walnut Hills is located in one of Cincinnati’s oldest and most historically significant neighborhoods, known for landmarks such as the Harriet Beecher Stowe House.

As of now, no injuries have been reported, and additional security measures are expected to be evaluated in the wake of the incident.
