Mike Pence Applauds Trump’s Move to Resume Military Aid to Ukraine

Deep Look

Former Vice President Mike Pence voiced strong support for President Donald Trump’s decision to restart military aid to Ukraine, urging continued backing until peace is achieved.

“I do believe the time has come for us to renew our military support for Ukraine, make it clear that we’re going to continue to provide that support, along with our European allies, until a just and lasting peace is achieved,” Pence said during a Thursday interview with CNN.

Pence has often criticized Trump’s wavering stance on the war, as the president has shifted between frustration toward both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Recently, however, Trump has become increasingly critical of Putin, acknowledging that the Russian leader appears uninterested in ending the conflict.

“That was a war that should have never happened, and a lot of people are dying, and it should end,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting earlier this week. “We get a lot of bullshit thrown at us from Putin, if you want to know the truth. He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”

Pence welcomed Trump’s tougher rhetoric and renewed support for Ukraine, noting Zelenskyy’s willingness to negotiate for peace. He condemned Russia’s latest drone strikes on Kyiv, which killed multiple civilians.

“My hope is that the president is starting to recognize Vladimir Putin doesn’t want peace,” Pence said. “Vladimir Putin wants Ukraine.”

Pence also backed a congressional push to impose tougher sanctions on Russia, legislation that Trump suggested he might endorse. Pence urged swift action.

“My hope is the president will make it clear he wants that bill on his desk,” he said.
