Deep Look

At a White House press briefing Thursday, Vice President JD Vance claimed that Renee Nicole Good — the 37‑year‑old woman who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during a confrontation in Minneapolis — was not acting alone but was part of what he described as a “broader left‑wing network” directed against ICE officers.

Speaking to reporters in Washington, Vance said Good’s death occurred when she attempted to use her vehicle against an ICE agent. He framed her actions as part of an organized pattern of opposition to federal immigration authorities.

According to Vance, the alleged network isn’t just a spontaneous group of protesters, but includes activists, supporters and even elements of the media that are “cheerleading” efforts to disrupt law enforcement operations.

Vance said authorities are investigating several questions:

  • Who coordinated protest activity against ICE?
  • Who funded or encouraged acts of violence and harassment?
  • How did Good learn about and become involved in the events that led to her encounter with federal agents?

“When somebody throws a brick at an ICE agent, or somebody tries to run over an ICE agent, who paid for the brick and who told protesters to show up and engage in violent activity against our law enforcement officers?” he asked.

Vance indicated that if any illegal activity tied to these networks is discovered, the Justice Department will pursue prosecution.

Accusations Against Media and Organizers

The vice president further accused segments of the media of supporting or amplifying the efforts of groups opposing immigration enforcement, without providing clear evidence of direct coordination. He insisted investigators will work to connect the dots between supporters, organizers, and participants in anti‑ICE actions.

Vance did not name specific organizations or individuals he believes are behind the network, saying that identifying those connections is part of an ongoing inquiry.

Clash With Minnesota Governor Tim Walz

The briefing also featured sharp criticism from Vance toward Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, who has condemned the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement presence in Minneapolis.

Walz’s comments defending local opposition to federal agents drew a harsh response from the vice president, who dismissed him as lacking credibility.

“That’s very tough rhetoric from a guy who just quit because his fraudulent activities have been uncovered,” Vance said, referencing an ongoing scandal in Minnesota that has resulted in numerous arrests and indictments tied to welfare fraud, particularly within the state’s Somali community.

Vance called Walz’s statements “absurd,” and rejected the notion that the governor is a “freedom fighter” for criticizing the federal response. He said the administration is focused on both rooting out fraud in Minnesota and enforcing the nation’s immigration laws — not on local political disputes.

“Look, Tim Walz is a joke. His entire administration has been a joke,” Vance said. “I don’t care what Tim Walz says. I care about getting to the bottom of this fraud for the American people. And I care about enforcing the nation’s immigration laws. That’s what we’re going to stay focused on.”
