SAN FRANCISCO — Victoria Jones, daughter of renowned actor Tommy Lee Jones, was found dead early New Year’s Day at a San Francisco hotel. She was 34 years old.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the Fairmont Hotel at 2:52 a.m. on January 1, following reports of an unresponsive individual in one of the corridors. A spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department confirmed that paramedics arrived, assessed the situation, and declared the person deceased. The San Francisco Police Department and medical examiner’s office have since taken over the investigation.
While an official cause of death has yet to be determined, TMZ and The Daily Mail reported that Jones was found by another hotel guest who alerted staff.
Victoria was the second child of Tommy Lee Jones and his second wife, Kimberlea Cloughley. Her older brother, Austin, is 43. A familiar presence alongside her father in public appearances, Victoria also had early acting experience, appearing in Men in Black II and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, as well as in the television series One Tree Hill.
During promotion for The Three Burials, Tommy Lee Jones spoke fondly of his daughter’s skills and discipline. “She’s a good actress, has her SAG card, speaks impeccable Spanish,” he told The New Yorker, noting that her nurse, Leticia, had raised her bilingual. However, he also shared a humorous anecdote about her reluctance to early call times.
“She had to get up at 5 a.m. for her part,” he recalled. “One morning, she wouldn’t get out of bed. I said: ‘Honey, this is work.’ But she wouldn’t budge. So I fired her. Then, without telling me, the production staff woke her and rushed her to the set just in time.”
Victoria frequently joined her father at events, including the Tokyo International Film Festival in October 2018, where Tommy Lee Jones served on the jury.
The actor, now 79 years old, is best known for his Oscar-winning role in The Fugitive, along with acclaimed performances in films such as JFK, No Country for Old Men, In the Valley of Elah, and Lincoln.
