Deep Look: Trump to Reveal US-Brokered 60-Day Ceasefire Between Hamas and Israel

GAZA/JERUSALEM/WASHINGTON — In a dramatic diplomatic development, President Donald Trump is expected to personally announce the terms of a U.S.-brokered 60-day ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, according to reports from The White House The announcement could come within hours, as the final details of the deal are reportedly being finalized.

The truce, which has been accepted by both sides, was mediated by U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, who has emerged as a key player in Trump’s foreign policy push in the region. Witkoff informed both parties of the mutual acceptance earlier Thursday.

Israel has accepted a new U.S. proposal for a temporary ceasefire with Hamas, the White House said Thursday.

“I can confirm that special envoy (Steve) Witkoff and the president submitted a ceasefire proposal to Hamas that Israel backed and supported,” White House press Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

But Leavitt said talks were ongoing and Hamas had not yet accepted terms of the proposal. Witkoff on Wednesday said the U.S. administration was close to presenting a new proposal.

The new proposal was intended to return surviving as well as dead hostages still being held in Gaza in exchange for an an extended truce in fighting.

Ceasefire Terms

The reported agreement outlines a phased truce and prisoner-hostage exchange:

  • Day 1: Hamas will release 5 living hostages and 9 bodies.
  • Day 7: Hamas to release 5 more hostages and 9 additional remains.
  • In return, Israel will release 125 Palestinian prisoners, all serving life sentences.
  • The ceasefire will last 60 days, with negotiations for a permanent peace beginning on Day 1.
  • Humanitarian aid convoys will enter Gaza immediately after Hamas’ confirmation of acceptance.
  • International monitors, including the UN and Red Crescent, will supervise aid distribution and prisoner transfers.

Trump’s Personal Involvement

The Witkoff Plan reportedly includes a clause affirming President Trump’s personal commitment to the deal, with Trump himself expected to hold a press conference to unveil its details.

This would mark a significant moment for the Trump administration’s foreign policy, showcasing U.S. leadership in brokering regional peace agreements — a key element of Trump’s second-term platform.

Trump is said to guarantee Israel’s compliance with the truce, while the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar are listed as guarantors of the agreement. Witkoff will continue to oversee and mediate the implementation phase.

Israeli Position

Earlier Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed the families of Israeli hostages that Israel had accepted the proposal. However, he made it clear that the acceptance of the ceasefire does not signify an end to the broader conflict in Gaza.

Netanyahu reportedly convened a high-level meeting with his Foreign Affairs, Finance, and National Security ministers to finalize Israel’s response to the agreement.

Reactions & Outlook

Sources close to the negotiations say the White House is optimistic that the deal could bridge remaining gaps between the two sides. A senior U.S. official noted that a finalized agreement may be possible within days, provided both sides uphold their end of the bargain.

Earlier, Hamas confirmed it had received the proposal from mediators and was reviewing it before accepting the full terms.

While the Trump administration has celebrated this as a major foreign policy achievement, critics caution that true peace will depend on whether a long-term agreement can be built on the foundation of this 60-day truce.
