Deep Look

Kamala Harris to Deliver Major Speech Blasting Trump’s First 100 Days

LOS ANGELESFormer Vice President Kamala Harris will break her post-administration silence Wednesday with a fiery speech condemning President Donald Trump’s early second-term agenda, signaling her continued influence in the Democratic Party and fueling speculation about her political ambitions.

Harris will be the keynote speaker at the 20th anniversary gala for Emerge America, a national organization dedicated to recruiting and training Democratic women to run for office. The group traces its roots to Harris’s 2003 campaign for San Francisco district attorney, where she launched a career that took her from local office to the U.S. Senate and then to the vice presidency.

The gala takes place just one day after Trump marked his first 100 days back in the Oval Office, making Harris’s remarks a pointed counter to the president’s recent rally in Michigan and a symbolic start to what could become a new political chapter for her.

Her speech is expected to address a broad range of Trump administration policies, with a focus on economic inequality, foreign policy, and what she sees as attacks on democratic institutions. It will be her most in-depth public commentary since leaving office in January.

“There has never been a more important time for a strong Democratic Party — one that is willing to stand up to Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and what they are doing to this country,” Harris wrote in recent fundraising appeals.

A Leader at a Crossroads

While Harris has yet to confirm her next political move, she is widely seen as a potential candidate for governor of California in 2026 or even a return contender for the presidency. With Gov. Gavin Newsom term-limited and eyeing national prospects of his own, the stage may soon be set for another high-profile race in the Golden State.

Harris’s fundraising operation remains active. Her joint fundraising committee — the Harris Victory Fund — combines efforts with the Democratic National Committee and state-level parties and had roughly $4.5 million in reserves as of the end of March, according to federal filings.

Though several Democratic governors and prominent figures have begun stepping forward in the post-2024 landscape, Harris remains uniquely positioned to shape the party’s future. Her status as a former vice president and a leading woman of color in U.S. politics ensures she would draw immediate attention in any race she joins.

Rallying Democrats for the Midterms

In her fundraising messages, Harris has warned Democrats not to be complacent as Trump consolidates power in his second term.

“We must organize and stop Trump’s agenda while electing Democrats everywhere,” she wrote.

The former vice president’s speech at the Emerge gala will focus on energizing the Democratic base, particularly women, in advance of the critical 2026 midterms. It also serves as a symbolic homecoming: Harris now resides in Los Angeles but spent her formative years in the San Francisco Bay Area, where she first entered public service.

While Harris has kept a relatively low profile since leaving the White House, Wednesday’s speech could mark the start of a more visible role — whether as a national surrogate, a party unifier, or a candidate once again.
