Putin and Trump Set for Sixth Phone Call This Year Amid Ukraine Tensions

MOSCOW (AP) — U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin plan to hold a phone conversation on Thursday, marking the sixth publicly known discussion between the two leaders since Trump returned to the White House this year.

Trump announced the scheduled call in a social media post, stating it will take place at 10 a.m. EDT. Neither he nor Putin provided details on what they plan to discuss.

The last confirmed call between the two took place on June 14, just a day after Israeli strikes targeted Iran.

The frequent dialogue signals both Trump and Putin are eager to repair U.S.-Russia relations, which have sunk to their lowest point since the Cold War amid Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

Thursday’s call comes as the Pentagon has confirmed it is pausing shipments of certain weapons to Ukraine while it assesses global U.S. military stockpiles. The equipment affected reportedly includes air defense missiles, precision-guided artillery, and other crucial supplies, according to a U.S. official and a former national security official who spoke on condition of anonymity because details remain undisclosed publicly.

Meanwhile, Putin also spoke by phone with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday — their first direct conversation in nearly three years.
