Harrison Ford To Receive SAG-AFTRA Lifetime Award
Deep Look
LOS ANGELES — Harrison Ford, one of the most iconic actors of modern cinema, will be awarded the prestigious SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award in recognition of his extraordinary film career and lifelong dedication to humanitarian efforts.
The 83-year-old actor will receive the honor on March 1, 2026, during the 32nd annual Actor Awards, hosted by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. The event will stream live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles.
In a statement released Thursday, SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin praised Ford’s lasting influence, calling him a “singular presence in American life” and an actor whose characters have “shaped world culture.”
Ford’s legendary status in Hollywood is anchored by his starring roles in some of the most successful film franchises of all time. He rose to global fame in 1977 as Han Solo in Star Wars, a role he reprised across multiple sequels and trilogies. Just a few years later, he brought to life the adventurous archaeologist Indiana Jones, starting with Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, another iconic franchise that cemented his place in cinematic history.
In addition, Ford played Rick Deckard in Blade Runner (1982) and its sequel Blade Runner 2049, showcasing his versatility in science fiction. His performances span not only blockbuster franchises but also dramatic roles and television appearances, continuing to resonate with audiences across generations.
In his official statement, Ford shared his gratitude for the recognition:
“I am deeply honored to be chosen as this year’s recipient of the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award. To be acknowledged by my fellow actors means a great deal to me. I’ve spent most of my life on film sets, working alongside incredible actors and crews, and I’ve always felt grateful to be part of this community.”
This award is the highest tribute bestowed by SAG-AFTRA, reserved for performers who represent the “finest ideals of the acting profession.” In Ford’s case, the honor also acknowledges his longstanding commitment to environmental and humanitarian causes.
Throughout his career, Ford has earned a collection of lifetime honors, including:
- AFI Life Achievement Award (2000)
- Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Golden Globes (2002)
- Critics Choice Career Achievement Award (2024)
Outside of his cinematic achievements, Ford has used his platform to support environmental preservation, wildlife protection, and global humanitarian initiatives. He has been an outspoken advocate for climate action and serves on the board of Conservation International.
As Hollywood reflects on Ford’s six-decade career, his roles remain as culturally influential today as they were upon release. From piloting the Millennium Falcon to cracking whips in ancient temples, Ford has shaped the landscape of American film while also contributing meaningfully to causes beyond the screen.
The upcoming ceremony on March 1 will not only celebrate Ford’s body of work but also his legacy as a leader and role model within the entertainment industry.
