Deep Look: FBI Closed Road Near Nancy Guthrie Home
Investigators probing the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie intensified activity near her Tucson-area home late Friday, closing a nearby road and towing a vehicle believed to be connected to the ongoing case.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI established a roadblock roughly 2 miles from Guthrie’s residence in the foothills north of Tucson. A steady stream of marked and unmarked law enforcement vehicles — including forensic units — moved through the closure as authorities continued their work.
At nearly the same time, officials tagged and towed a Range Rover SUV from a Culver’s restaurant parking lot located just over 2 miles from Guthrie’s home. The sheriff’s department confirmed the actions were related to the investigation but said the FBI requested that no further details be released.
No additional information was made public early Saturday.
Ongoing Search Efforts
Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Feb. 1. Authorities have said blood was discovered on the front porch of her home, raising concerns that she may have been taken against her will.
In the days since her disappearance, investigators have reviewed surveillance footage, analyzed DNA and other forensic evidence, and processed thousands of tips from the public.
The FBI has reported receiving more than 13,000 tips since the case began, while the sheriff’s department has logged at least 18,000 calls.
Earlier this week, officials released brief surveillance videos showing an armed, masked individual at Guthrie’s doorstep on the night of her apparent abduction. The footage, less than a minute in total, marked the first public glimpse of a suspect and is believed to contain potential investigative clues.
Health Concerns Heighten Urgency
Authorities have emphasized concerns about Guthrie’s health. According to dispatcher audio, she relies on daily medication and has a pacemaker. She also has a history of high blood pressure and heart issues, heightening urgency in the search.
Purported ransom notes were sent to media outlets in the days following her disappearance. However, two deadlines for payment mentioned in the notes have already passed, and officials have not confirmed their authenticity.
Friday’s heightened law enforcement presence suggests the investigation remains active and fluid, though authorities have provided few specifics about new leads.
As the search continues, investigators are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement while they examine evidence gathered near Guthrie’s home and surrounding area.
