Thunder Bench Provides Major Spark
One of the biggest differences in Game 2 was Oklahoma City’s overwhelming advantage in bench production.
The Thunder reserves outscored San Antonio’s bench 57-25 and helped swing the game with constant defensive pressure and transition offense.
Alex Caruso delivered 17 points off the bench, while Jared McCain and Cason Wallace each contributed 12 points.

“I thought we all played better,” Daigneault said.

Gilgeous-Alexander looked far more aggressive and composed compared to the series opener.
The NBA MVP attacked the Spurs defense consistently throughout the night and delivered several key baskets late in the fourth quarter to stop San Antonio comeback attempts.
His final basket with just over a minute remaining helped seal the victory after the Spurs had trimmed the deficit to five points.
The performance reminded fans and analysts why Gilgeous-Alexander remains one of the league’s most dangerous postseason scorers.
Victor Wembanyama Keeps Spurs Competitive
Despite the loss, San Antonio continued receiving elite production from Victor Wembanyama.
The young superstar finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and four blocked shots in another dominant all-around performance.
Stephon Castle added 25 points, while Devin Vassell scored 22 for the Spurs.
San Antonio repeatedly fought back despite struggling with turnovers and injuries throughout the game.
Wembanyama acknowledged the Spurs must improve their ball security moving forward.
“We’ve got to help our ballhandlers more and take care of the ball,” he said.
Thunder Survive Late Spurs Rally
Oklahoma City appeared in control for much of the second half but nearly watched the lead disappear late in the fourth quarter.
San Antonio cut the deficit to 99-97 after Harrison Barnes hit a corner three-pointer with just over nine minutes remaining.
The Thunder responded immediately with a critical 11-0 run that shifted momentum back toward Oklahoma City.
A banked-in three-pointer by Jared McCain highlighted the decisive stretch.
Even after that run, the Spurs continued battling.
Wembanyama scored inside with 1:25 remaining to trim the lead to 118-113 before Gilgeous-Alexander answered with the game-clinching basket.
Injuries Continue Affecting Both Teams
The game also brought new injury concerns for both teams heading into Game 3.
Thunder guard Jalen Williams exited during the first half after experiencing renewed tightness in his previously injured left hamstring.
Williams had already missed six playoff games because of the injury, and his status for Friday remains uncertain.
The Spurs also suffered another setback after losing guard Dylan Harper to a right leg injury following awkward falls in the third quarter.
San Antonio was already without All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox because of ankle soreness.
Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said the injuries placed enormous strain on the team’s remaining ballhandlers.
“Obviously this team is as good as anybody at turning you over, so when you’re down some of your primary creators and initiators it causes a little bit of an extra strain,” Johnson said.
“We’ll just have to be sharper in that area because it’s tough fully loaded against these guys.”
Series Shifts to San Antonio
The Western Conference finals now move to San Antonio for Game 3 on Friday night with the series tied 1-1.
The Spurs had won five of the previous six meetings against Oklahoma City entering Game 2, but the Thunder’s response demonstrated why they remain defending champions and one of the league’s deepest teams.
Much attention now turns toward the health of key players including Williams, Harper, and Fox as both teams prepare for a pivotal matchup in Texas.
