The Kentucky congressman has also criticized U.S. involvement in the escalating conflict involving Iran.
Pentagon Defends Hegseth’s Appearance
The Pentagon defended Hegseth’s participation in the campaign event, arguing he attended strictly in a personal capacity and did not violate federal ethics laws governing political activity.
Addressing legal concerns directly at the rally, Hegseth joked about “all the lawyers” watching his appearance and emphasized that he was not attending as part of his official government duties.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell later released a statement saying no taxpayer resources were used for the visit.
“No taxpayer dollars will be used to facilitate his visit. His participation has been thoroughly vetted and cleared by lawyers,” Parnell said.
The Pentagon also insisted Hegseth’s appearance did not violate the Hatch Act, which restricts political activities by federal employees.
