Trump Confirms MRI at Walter Reed but Offers No Details on Health Concerns

WASHINGTON President Donald Trump disclosed Monday that he underwent an MRI scan during his recent visit to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, a detail he shared for the first time after weeks of speculation surrounding his health and a second unusual medical exam this year.

“I did. I got an MRI. It was perfect,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One.

Pressed for details, the 79-year-old president declined to explain why he needed the MRI, instead deferring questions to his medical team.

“Ask the doctors,” he said. “But the machine, you know, the whole thing—it was perfect.”

A Departure from Routine Presidential Health Protocol

Presidents typically undergo one annual comprehensive medical exam, often with full transparency. Trump’s second exam in the same year and the lack of clarity around it have raised eyebrows among reporters, medical analysts, and political observers.

The White House has yet to release a full report on the MRI or why it was conducted. Trump insisted that his doctors provided a “very conclusive” briefing to the press, though no specific diagnosis or detailed medical records have been shared beyond general assurances.

“Nobody has ever given you reports like I gave you,” Trump claimed. “If I didn’t think it was going to be good, I wouldn’t run.”

Chronic Venous Insufficiency Diagnosis Previously Confirmed

Earlier this year, the White House announced that Trump was being treated for chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that affects blood flow in the legs and can lead to swelling, pain, and skin changes. The diagnosis was tied to swelling in Trump’s legs, prompting speculation about his mobility and circulatory health.

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) occurs when vein valves fail to close properly, causing blood to pool in the lower extremities. The condition is more common among older adults and people with sedentary lifestyles. Treatment often includes compression therapy, medication, or minimally invasive procedures in advanced cases.

About 150,000 new cases are diagnosed annually in the U.S., with risk increasing significantly with age.

Bruising, Makeup, and Ongoing Speculation

Beyond leg swelling, Trump has also faced scrutiny over repeated bruising on his right hand, which observers note he has sometimes concealed with heavy makeup during public appearances.

White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella attributed the bruising to “frequent handshaking” combined with aspirin use, which can lead to increased bleeding and bruising—especially in older individuals.

Still, the lack of transparency continues to fuel concern, particularly as Trump remains an active presidential candidate and one of the oldest commanders-in-chief in U.S. history.

Trump Downplays Concerns, Praises His Own Health

Despite the speculation, Trump has remained defiant and upbeat in his public statements about his health, repeatedly saying he has received glowing reviews from his doctors.

“Some of the best reports for the age, some of the best reports they’ve ever seen,” he said Monday.

He further emphasized that if he felt his health was a serious concern, he would consider stepping back.

“I wouldn’t run if I didn’t think it was going to be good,” Trump said.
