Deep Look: Bill Gates to Appear Before House Oversight in Epstein Investigation
WASHINGTON — Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on June 10 as part of an ongoing congressional investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
According to a person familiar with the committee’s plans, Gates will participate in a transcribed interview behind closed doors. The session follows a March 3 letter from lawmakers requesting his testimony as part of the broader inquiry into Epstein’s connections with influential figures.
A spokesperson for Gates confirmed he plans to cooperate fully with the investigation.
“While he never witnessed or participated in any of Epstein’s illegal conduct, he is looking forward to answering all the committee’s questions to support their important work,” the spokesperson said.
Gates Under Scrutiny Over Epstein Relationship
Gates has faced increasing scrutiny over his past interactions with Epstein. Previously released documents in December showed Gates appearing with the disgraced financier.
Gates has acknowledged having multiple dinners with Epstein, saying he believed Epstein could help connect wealthy donors to global health initiatives.
However, Gates later said those meetings did not lead to meaningful philanthropic outcomes.
In a 2021 interview with PBS NewsHour, Gates described the meetings as “a mistake” and said he ended contact after realizing Epstein would not help fundraise for global health projects.
Series of High-Profile Interviews
Other scheduled interviews include:
- Ted Waitt, Gateway founder — April 30
- Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick — May 6
- Prison guard Tova Noel — May 18
- Epstein assistant Lesley Groff — June 9
Ted Waitt was previously linked romantically to Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime Epstein associate currently serving prison time.
Tova Noel, a prison guard, has said she was among the last people to see Epstein alive before his death in federal custody.
Previous Testimony
The committee has already conducted interviews with several prominent figures, including:
- Former Attorney General Bill Barr
- Former Labor Secretary Alex Acosta
- Ghislaine Maxwell
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have also been questioned about their interactions with Epstein.
Closed-Door Interviews
The interviews will be conducted behind closed doors and transcribed for congressional review. While less formal than depositions, transcribed interviews still carry legal significance and allow investigators to gather detailed testimony.
Lawmakers are using the sessions to piece together Epstein’s network of contacts and examine whether influential individuals had knowledge of his activities.
Continuing Congressional Investigation
The House Oversight Committee continues to expand its investigation into Epstein’s relationships and financial network.
Gates’ testimony is expected to draw significant attention given his global prominence and previous association with Epstein.
The June 10 interview will likely address:
- Gates’ meetings with Epstein
- Philanthropic discussions
- Timeline of interactions
- Knowledge of Epstein’s activities
Ongoing Interest in Epstein Network
The Epstein investigation continues to attract public and congressional attention years after his death in 2019.
Lawmakers have emphasized transparency and accountability as they continue interviewing witnesses connected to Epstein.
Gates’ appearance marks one of the most high-profile testimonies in the ongoing inquiry.
