Taylor Swift Takes the Top Spot in Spotify History

NEW YORK — Taylor Swift has officially become Spotify’s most streamed artist of all time, topping the platform’s first-ever all-time streaming rankings released Thursday.

The achievement adds another major milestone to Swift’s already historic career, reinforcing her position as one of the most dominant global music stars of the streaming era.

Spotify’s new list places Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny in second place, followed by Drake in third.

The ranking was released as part of Spotify’s 20th anniversary celebration, with the company also unveiling its most streamed albums, songs, podcasts, and audiobooks of all time.

For fans of both Swift and Bad Bunny, the result reflects years of intense competition between two of the world’s biggest music artists.

Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny Continue Their Streaming Rivalry

The battle for streaming dominance between Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny has been one of the defining stories of modern music platforms.

In 2025, Bad Bunny — born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio — was named Spotify’s most played artist of the year for the fourth time, taking the crown back from Swift.

Before that, Swift had held the annual top spot for two consecutive years.

Bad Bunny had previously dominated the yearly rankings from 2020 through 2023.

The back-and-forth between the two artists has created what many fans see as a streaming rivalry at the very top of the music industry.

Now, with Spotify’s all-time list, Swift has claimed the biggest long-term prize.

Drake, The Weeknd, and Global Superstars Fill Top Rankings

After Swift, Bad Bunny, and Drake, the rest of Spotify’s all-time most streamed artists list features some of the biggest names in global music.

The Weeknd ranked fourth, followed by Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish, Eminem, and Kanye West to round out the top 10.

Other major artists in the top 20 include Travis Scott, BTS, Post Malone, Bruno Mars, J Balvin, Rihanna, Coldplay, Kendrick Lamar, Future, and Juice WRLD.

The list reflects the international power of streaming, with artists from pop, hip-hop, reggaeton, K-pop, R&B, and alternative genres all represented.

Spotify did not provide details about the exact methodology used to calculate the rankings when asked by The Associated Press.

Bad Bunny Owns the Most Streamed Album

Although Taylor Swift leads the artist rankings, Bad Bunny holds the No. 1 position for the most streamed album of all time.

His massive hit album “Un Verano Sin Ti” sits at the top of Spotify’s album rankings.

The project became a global cultural force and helped solidify Bad Bunny’s dominance across both English-speaking and Latin music markets.

The Weeknd’s “Starboy” ranked second, followed by Ed Sheeran’s “÷ (Deluxe)” in third.

Other albums in the top 10 include Olivia Rodrigo’s “SOUR,” SZA’s “SOS,” Post Malone’s “Hollywood’s Bleeding,” Taylor Swift’s “Lover,” Arctic Monkeys’ “AM,” and Billie Eilish’s “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”

Swift also placed “Midnights” inside the top 20.

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” Leads Song Rankings

When it comes to individual songs, The Weeknd’s global smash hit “Blinding Lights” holds the No. 1 position as Spotify’s most streamed song of all time.

Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” ranked second, while The Neighbourhood’s “Sweater Weather” came in third.

Other songs high on the list include Harry Styles’ “As It Was,” Lewis Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved,” Post Malone and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower,” Drake’s “One Dance,” and Justin Bieber’s collaboration on “Stay.”

The rankings highlight how streaming has reshaped the way music success is measured, with longevity and replay value becoming just as important as chart performance.

Streaming Dominates the Music Industry

Spotify’s rankings also underline how deeply streaming now drives the global music business.

According to the Recording Industry Association of America, streaming accounts for 82% of all money generated by the music industry in the United States.

That means digital listening platforms have become the primary source of artist success and label revenue.

Spotify, founded in Sweden in April 2006, remains the world’s largest music streaming platform.

The company controls more than 31% of the total market share and reports 751 million users, including 290 million paid subscribers, across more than 184 markets worldwide.

Its influence over music discovery, chart success, and artist visibility is unmatched.

A Defining Streaming Era for Music

Spotify’s first all-time rankings offer more than just numbers — they provide a snapshot of the artists who defined the streaming generation.

For Taylor Swift, topping the all-time list confirms her staying power across multiple eras of music.

For Bad Bunny, it highlights the global reach of Latin music and the massive cultural shift in international listening habits.

For fans, it settles one of the biggest debates in modern music: who truly rules the streaming era.

At least for now, Spotify’s answer is clear — it’s Taylor Swift.
