Cowboys, Packers Battle to 40-40 Tie in Dallas, Micah Parsons Returns

Deep Look

The NFL world expected fireworks when Micah Parsons returned to AT&T Stadium for the first time since being traded from Dallas to Green Bay. What they got was a historic shootout that ended with no victor — a 40-40 tie between the Cowboys and Packers that will be remembered for its chaos, big plays, and playoff-level energy.

In a game filled with drama, momentum swings, and offensive explosions, both Dak Prescott and Jordan Love delivered standout performances. Each quarterback tossed three touchdown passes in regulation, powering their teams through seven consecutive lead-changing touchdowns.

The result? A tie that felt more like a heavyweight draw than an unfinished game.

Overtime Drama

After the game went to overtime, the Cowboys looked poised to finish the job. Prescott escaped pressure and hit Jalen Tolbert for a spectacular 34-yard completion down the sideline, placing the ball inside the Packers’ 5-yard line. But Micah Parsons — traded just a month ago — made his presence felt, chasing down Prescott from behind for a sack that stalled the drive. Dallas settled for a 22-yard field goal by Brandon Aubrey.

Green Bay responded with a gritty drive of its own. Love converted a critical fourth-and-6 with a 14-yard completion to Matthew Golden, then pushed the ball to the Cowboys’ 12-yard line. The clock ran down to one second after poor time management and a tackle inbounds. Love’s final pass into the back of the end zone fell incomplete, and Brandon McManus kicked a 34-yard field goal as the clock hit zero — sealing the 40-40 tie.

Historic Outcome

This game marks the second-highest scoring tie in NFL history, trailing only the 43-43 AFL clash between the Raiders and Patriots in 1964. It also became the first tie for the Cowboys since 1969 and the first for the Packers since 2018.

It’s only the fifth tie since overtime rules changed in 2013 to prevent a first-possession field goal from ending the game. All five of those ties involved both teams scoring field goals in OT.

“Doesn’t feel good, feels kind of weird,” said Love. “Feels weird to go through a full game and end in a tie.”

Offensive Showcase

Jordan Love threw for 337 yards and connected with Romeo Doubs for all three of his touchdown passes. Running back Josh Jacobs added two rushing scores and totaled 157 yards from scrimmage.

Prescott was equally sharp, throwing for 319 yards, rushing for a touchdown, and helping fill the void left by the absence of CeeDee Lamb, who was sidelined with a high ankle sprain. Receiver George Pickens stepped up with 8 catches for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Dallas coach Brian Schottenheimer, in his first season at the helm, praised his team’s resilience despite the frustration of not securing a win.

“No one in that locker room is happy. No one is fulfilled,” Schottenheimer said. “But I would be remiss if I didn’t say how proud I am of their fight.”

Defense Delivers in Moments

Despite the offensive fireworks, both defenses made timely plays. Parsons’ only sack came at a crucial moment in overtime. The Cowboys’ lone sack on Love led to a fumble and a late first-half touchdown.

On special teams, Juanyeh Thomas blocked an extra point and Markquese Bell returned it for a rare 2-point defensive conversion, the first in Cowboys franchise history. That swing kept Dallas within reach before McManus’ last-second kick tied the game at the end of regulation.

Cowboys Still Winless Without Lamb

The absence of top wide receiver CeeDee Lamb was felt, though Pickens and tight end Jake Ferguson helped carry the load. The offensive line, missing two starters, allowed only one sack. Still, Dallas missed Lamb’s elite route-running and red-zone presence.

Packers Remain Unbeaten in Dallas

Green Bay extended its unbeaten record at AT&T Stadium to 6-0-1, including a Super Bowl win in 2010. The franchise continues to thrive under the roof in Arlington, where the Cowboys have struggled to hold home-field advantage in marquee games.
