Coming off a frustrating loss to the Saints marked by turnovers and missed opportunities, rookies Cam Skattebo and Jaxson Dart led a full-team redemption Thursday night as the New York Giants shocked the Philadelphia Eagles 34–17 in front of a national audience.
Skattebo bulldozed his way to three rushing touchdowns and 98 yards on 19 carries, while Dart bounced back with a steady performance under center, throwing for 195 yards and a touchdown and running for another score. The duo—who spent their post-Saints flight dwelling on what went wrong—transformed that frustration into a statement win.
“We felt confident. We just tried to play hard for each other,” Dart said.
“We’re not trying to make statements. We’re just trying to win games.”
Rookie Redemption Fuels Giants Offense
Skattebo’s scoring plays came on bruising runs from 4 yards and twice from the 1-yard line, showcasing his low-center power behind an offensive line that dominated the trenches.
Dart, who suffered two interceptions and a fumble last week, protected the football and made decisive plays. His 20-yard untouched touchdown run in the second quarter energized the MetLife crowd, and his 35-yard touchdown pass to Wan’Dale Robinson sealed the upset.
“I’m going sleep with No. 3 tonight as my pillow,” Skattebo joked, holding his game ball.
“Props to the guys up front. They gave everything.”
Dart also cleared concussion protocol after taking a hard hit in the second half, remaining in the game to lead the Giants’ final scoring drive.
Defense Delivers as Giants Clamp Down on Hurts
While the rookies carried the offense, the Giants defense came to play. The unit sacked Jalen Hurts three times, with Brian Burns tallying two sacks to bring his season total to 7, tying him for the league lead.
The biggest defensive moment came in the fourth quarter when Cor’Dale Flott intercepted Hurts and returned it 68 yards, setting up the game’s final points. It was Hurts’ first interception of the season, aside from his pick in Super Bowl LVIII.
Hurts also missed a wide-open DeVonta Smith on what should have been a touchdown, misfiring on a pass that could have swung momentum.
“I didn’t give him a good ball,” Hurts admitted.
“It’s something I own and something I’m going to fix.”
Eagles’ Offense Stalls Despite Tush Push TD
Philadelphia’s signature “tush push” QB sneak powered Hurts into the end zone in the second quarter after four consecutive attempts. He later added a shovel-pass TD to tight end Dallas Goedert.
But miscues and missed connections proved costly as the Eagles fell to 4–2, suffering back-to-back losses for the first time since their late-season collapse in 2023.
“We’re still trying to find our identity,” said receiver A.J. Brown, who was limited in the second half.
Giants Break Eagles’ Dominance
This win marks just the Giants’ fourth victory in their last 18 matchups against Philadelphia. The team had only beaten the Eagles once in their last seven meetings, with that lone win coming during a similar end-of-season collapse by Philly in 2023.
The Giants now sit at 2–4, still below .500, but with a growing sense of momentum and confidence led by a young core determined to keep building.
“You go through tough times,” said head coach Brian Daboll.
“You either get stronger or fold. I like our guys. They’re tough.”
