White House Attributes Redness on Trump’s Neck to Prescribed Skin Cream

WASHINGTON — The White House said Monday that a noticeable red area on President Donald Trump’s neck is the result of a prescribed skin cream, though officials declined to specify what medical condition the treatment is intended to address.

The discoloration drew attention after news photographers captured close-up images of Trump during a Medal of Honor ceremony in the East Room of the White House. The visible redness quickly circulated online, prompting questions about the president’s health.

In a written statement, White House physician Dr. Sean Barbabella said the president is using “a very common cream on the right side of his neck,” describing it as a preventative skin treatment.

“The President is using this treatment for one week, and the redness is expected to last for a few weeks,” Barbabella said.

Limited Details From White House

Officials did not immediately respond to follow-up questions about the name of the cream, when the treatment began, or what specific condition it is meant to prevent.

However, publicly available photographs suggest that the redness has been visible for at least several weeks. Images taken during a Feb. 19 appearance at the U.S. Institute of Peace show similar discoloration.

Trump’s April 2025 physical examination report noted that he uses mometasone cream “as needed” for an unspecified skin condition, though it did not provide further details.

Ongoing Scrutiny of Presidential Health

At 79, Trump became the oldest president to take the oath of office when he was sworn in for his second term in January. His age has made routine medical updates a subject of heightened public interest.

Barbabella previously disclosed that Trump underwent preventive MRI screenings of his heart and abdomen in October at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. The results, the doctor said at the time, were “perfectly normal,” and the president was described as being in overall “exceptional health.”

While the White House has characterized the neck redness as a minor side effect of treatment, questions surrounding presidential health disclosures remain a frequent topic of public discussion, particularly during times of heightened national and international tension.

For now, officials maintain that the visible redness is temporary and related to routine preventative care.
