Trump Responds to Apprentice Reboot Reports
President Donald Trump has weighed in on reports that The Apprentice could return to television, potentially with his son, Donald Trump Jr., stepping into the host role.
Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Trump about reports that Amazon is considering reviving the show that helped make him a household name.
“Well, well, I’ve been hearing it,” the president acknowledged.
Trump first touted the original series: “Look, we had a great success — 14 seasons — and ‘The Apprentice’ was a tremendous success.”
He then turned to the possibility of his son taking over:
“So, I’ve been hearing that, you know, a little bit, so we’ll see what happens. He’s a good guy. He’s probably good. He’s got a little charisma going. You need a little charisma for that sucker swing. So we’ll see what happens. Yeah, they told me about it. We’ll see.”
Speaking about the speculation, Trump offered a measured endorsement rather than full-throated support.
Trump added. “He’s got a little charisma going. You need a little charisma for that sucker.”
His comments suggest openness to the idea while stopping short of confirming any official plans.
The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week that Amazon is considering Trump Jr., who appeared on the original series, as a potential host, though it remains unclear how much he knows about the plans that are said to be in the embryonic stage.
The report has sparked accusations that Amazon and its founder, Jeff Bezos, are once again cozying up to the Trump administration, following inauguration-related donations and a documentary about first lady Melania Trump.
Amazon Exploring Future of Franchise
The speculation follows reports that Amazon is evaluating the future of The Apprentice after acquiring MGM, which holds rights to the franchise.
A company spokesperson clarified that discussions are still preliminary.
“Since our acquisition of MGM, we have had preliminary internal discussions about what’s next for The Apprentice as a property,” the spokesperson said. However, they emphasized that the reboot is not currently in active development and that reports about hosts remain speculative.
Don Jr.’s Past Role on the Show
Donald Trump Jr. is not new to the Apprentice franchise. During the show’s original run, he frequently appeared as a boardroom adviser, helping his father evaluate contestants.
The show, created by Mark Burnett, revolved around business-themed challenges, with contestants competing for a job opportunity while facing elimination in the iconic boardroom setting.
His prior involvement could make him a natural fit should the reboot move forward.
Legacy of The Apprentice
The Apprentice aired from 2004 to 2015 and became a major television success, significantly boosting Trump’s public profile.
After Trump left to run for president, Arnold Schwarzenegger hosted the final season, though the show did not maintain its earlier ratings momentum.
Despite ending its run, the franchise continues to generate revenue through royalties and licensing deals.
Business and Media Ties Continue
Amazon’s connection to the Trump brand extends beyond The Apprentice. The company reportedly invested heavily in a documentary project involving Melania Trump, highlighting ongoing business ties.
Additionally, The Apprentice still produces significant annual income, reinforcing its value as a media property even years after its original run ended.
Uncertain Future for Reboot
While interest in reviving the show appears real, its future remains uncertain. Industry insiders note that early-stage discussions do not always lead to production, especially when high-profile figures are involved.
For now, Trump’s comments add to the intrigue without confirming any concrete plans.
If a reboot does materialize, casting — particularly the choice of host — will likely play a central role in determining its success.
